Through piling, the current unified mass that has become a staple in municipal building typology can be subdivided into parts that intend to clarify interior programmatic hierarchies to the public. Piling has previously been used only to define units and program typologies that are commonly known, such as unitized residential structures, but here piling is being used as a medium of revelation.
The programmatic relationships, formal characteristics, and site considerations help to define a new typology of municipal buildings that can then be applied throughout the city and country to reform the way we view our community service sector. These strategies hope to reform the public accessibility of the judicial system in a manner that not only functions as a district courthouse, but also as the informational bridge between two abutting neighborhoods.
